Pixel Mode Closing

Hello,

Bad news have struck the Fashion community today as Tya Fallingbridge has announced she was closing her store Pixel Mode, for some time, as soon as the Shoe Fair was over. Let’s hope it is only temporary. We are loosing once more someone who has brought a lot to Second Life throughout the years because of too much pressure and being hurt.

I won’t discuss here who is right or wrong. I have seen several comments about this case, many people have different opinions about it for different reasons. Probably noone really knows. We love to all hate the same person after all. But once again, things have gone too far. It is sad to see drama counts more than quality and fashion.

I was planning on blogging the new Fae wedges already before learning the news as they are high quality. The sculpts and shadows are great, I also love the texture of the feet with details like wrinkles at the back of the ankle. I have no problem with the HUD as there are preset skins close enough to the skins I have to suit me when I want something fast. I have to say I am not so picky with sculpted feets tones because it might look good with some windlight settings and completely wrong with others. I have also noticed my perception of the tone changes from one computer to the other. I might be very happy with it on the laptop and not at all with the tower which has a more powerful graphic card. So while I could loose time to get a perfect match (in this case, 2 minutes with the notecard provided including the values for several skins) I often choose to be lazy and have it roughly correct but good enough. Unless the skin and the feet are made using the same texture, I hardly see how it would be possible anyway. In other words… HUD’s are much ado about nothing in my opinion.

Like in a Frank Capra’s Movie

Hello,

Today’s look will be a bit retro, elegant and sophisticated with a touch of romanticism. I had bought the shirt from Aoharu for something else but it did not fit at that time. I love it though with its loose bow. It reminds me of some 1930 blouse, like in a movie by Frank Capra. I love those old movies. I used to watch them with my grand mother when I was a kid and I am still happy when I see one. It was perfect to match my friend’s outfit who for once forgot about his pirate / biker look. He has discovered MR. Poet some weeks ago and must have bought all the shop at that time.

The skirt comes from District, it is part of a dress actualy, the Mrs Berenger’s one. You cannot see it really good on the picture but the texture has some nice details I haven’t found on other skirts. It is nice to remember about a little treasure hidden in your inventory.

For this outfit, I must have tried / purchased four or five different belts but none was the right color of red or they had details like bows or flowers which were a bit too much with the shirt until I have found this one at LeLutka.

I also had a little problem with the shoes… So I have paid a visit to the Shoe Fair, bought something like three or four fatpacks, all awesome, I will show them later but none of them had brigth red shoes… so I had to go back and went for these cute heels from Ingenue, a shop to remember for great quality elegant shoes with a realistic height.

The Jewels are a new release by Jori Watler for Mood. It is one of my favorite sets up to now with gold twisted links. I like particularly the size of the necklace and the earrings as they are big enough to be seen but not so big that it becomes predominant in the outfit. It compliments the neckline instead of covering it.

And last but not least… the awesome new fascinator from Lagyo. What can I say about it? It is simply perfect. The choice of colors, the splash of red on the white flowers, reminding the brushes. It is original and elegant, a must have.

What’s New Copycat?

No, I don’t believe my title is orginal, I actualy think it has been used before.

I am bored, bored with what I see on the feeds lately. Everywhere the same, everywhere the same new hair, everywhere the same new clothes, everywhere the same new accessories.

I am bored with so-called designers. Everywhere the same textures, everywhere the same sculpties. Everywhere the same RL inspirations. Hey look, the latest Lady Gaga excentricity! … declined in 10 SL versions.. how original!

I am bored with bloggers. Everywhere the same designers featured, everywhere the same reviews of new offered review copies, everywhere the same SL shadows and pictures, everywhere the same lack of content. I have to say some of my favorite bloggers have left and sadly, they were not replaced. The last one being Fayne Khandr who is on a indefinite blogging hiatus. I am not close to Fayne, i’ve spoken once or twice with her and she seemed to be a nice person but really, I miss her blog. She was one of the few I was looking forward for new articles as she was actualy offering us something to read, combined with a great sense of style and pictures telling a story. I don’t know why she has stopped, I am not close enough to bug her, I respect her choice, but yeah, I miss her blog posts.

I am bored with SL fashion. Doh wait… Am I different?

NOPE! I am not different! I do exactly the same! I only need to have a look at today’s style to know I am not different! It actualy started with me being sick, staying home, calling doctor and going to the pharmacy to get my medicines, 2 weeks ago. There, the owner of the drugstore was not wearing her white blouse like usual but she was actualy wearing a light grey woolen tunique with violet tights, black boots and belt and violet under-sweater. I was like “wow” she looks good with that. Then I’ve been thinking about what I could use in Second Life to create the same look. So, no, I am not original…

Yesterday, as I was looking for hair to finish the look, I’ve found that Truth Raquel style in my inventory. I actualy had never used it as it is very special and I had seen some other people doing a great job with it. One of those people being Leah McCullough. I remembered having seen a great picture of her wearing the same style. I mean no offense to others having used this style but Leah’s job is the one that had struck me at that time. Leah was kind enough to let me use her picture for my blog. See how pretty she is and how good the picture is.

But back to the point, when I saw that style, i immediately thought “yes! that is the one i need!” Not because it looks great, not because it works good with the style, but because someone else did a great job featuring it already!

Sometimes, I won’t blog an outfit because I am pretty sure everyone will blog it and I don’t think I am good enough to do better, Sometimes I still blog it, because it is that or nothing at all. I wished I could have the choice to blog something else but then, I am looking at the new creations, everywhere the same, and unfortunately, I have to say very few things will make me want to buy them these last days, not even the bloggers featuring them, including me… and that is boring.

Do you want a new boyfriend?

I don’t have a boyfriend so I decided to make myself one! Don’t blame me, I just had to… You see, Belleza has released 2 new male skins, Owen and Shawn and you can get previews of both in all tones if you’re a member of their group. The entry is 250 L$ but for such a price, it is not a deal, it is a steal!

I haven’t tried to make a babyface but a man with character. I hope you’ll like him as I have to say I have a crush on him.

When a male friend asks me where he can get great clothes, i always direct him to the same shops, so, there is where i went to dress Vincent :SEY, Primitive Design and Aoharu. The desert boots from Primitive Design are only 120 L$. A real bargain for such quality. I couldn’t believe my eyes. For the hair, I paid a visit to Exile where they have some great new releases we don’t see enough.

As Vincent is not really my boyfriend (cries) I might aswell share him with you. You can get the shape in world at ** Dunes ** or on the Marketplace. The shape comes in 2 sizes: 1m93 and 2m10. A style card and a bald base are included in the box if you want to look exactly like the model.

Venus from Leezu

Hello,

today was again rich in releases which are not to be missed! I cannot decide on my favorite between the new Leezu Venus jacket which is sexy, original and elegant (well, which is Leezu, you could say…) and the dimples and freckles on tatoo layer from L.Fauna. The freckles and dimples are so cute and a perfect addition to skins which doesn’t have those options. Here shown with PXL Dafne and you can see it blends perfectly. The hair, a fun and adorable style, is from Aoharu and still available at the Hair Fair for some days. The boots are also new, from Kookie, a longer version of the popular Armarda.

I wanted to take the pictures of this look with an african safari like background, somewhat old style, or a colonial house with african animal prints funitures but i haven’t had enough time to find what i was looking for. So, please, if you have any idea where i could find this kind of decor, let met know.

Let’s keep SL Lives Separated

I’ll diverge a bit from the mirror theme to speak about SL/RL layers, and more… lot of people are hiding behind their screen, we all have very pretty avatars. Designer United theme, Narcissus, is such a metaphore for SL in its whole. Second Life, the place where we are all so beautiful and like to contemplate ourselves, but please, forget about what/who is behind the screen. Who cares about hurting an avatar?

Most of the time, people get trouble in Second Life as it takes too much on their Real Life. Yesterday evening, thanks to some jerk, i’ve discovered a new layer to this: no RL (ok, i am fine with that), no SL (hmmm I am only busy in SL at the moment), but ok for another game? What kind of people can tell you that he likes you a lot, he wants you to leave everything you’re up to in SL and go play with him that other game “but our lives in SL remains like what we have now: separated… the point is i have a SL gf, i have fun with her, etc”. In his kindness, after i told him he is an asshole, he said i was allowed to IM him from time to time in SL, of course… Worst in this is that guy doesn’t even understand why i am not interested and told him he could forget about me as a friend. Right after that, i felt like looking at my back to see if a tail had grown in the meantime. hmm no, no tail, i am not yet a pet you can whistle when you need some company and leave alone when you have better to do.

She could have been a nice girl, she could have been sweet and wise, she could have had a boring life… but… she met Clyde Barrow.

The skin is only available for a limited time at Atomic for Stumblebum Brigade, hairstyle is last FLF Clawtooth offer and the necklace is available at The Dressing Room. I am not sure the shoes can still be purchased. I got them at a special event some months ago. The shirt was taking dust in my inventory for something like 2 years. It only comes on the jacket layer so this look was only possible thanks to the great new feature from 2.1 SL Viewer which allows you to add up to 5 other clothings on the same layer.

New at Dutch Touch and Aoharu

Hello,

one more new face has arrived at Dutch Touch this morning, Xaya. As always, you can find the powdered effect which caracterizes Dutch Touch Skins but this time, the nose is very different. It makes me think of a rose bouton, cute and round. The way it is drawn is pretty special as I don’t remind me having seen anything like this in the past. There is only one eyebrow option, so this skin might not suit every color of hair though the tone chosen is not too dark. I’ve picked the basic make-up (750 L$ with VIP group instead of 1000 L$) which depicts best the work on the other details of the face. If you’re looking for a fresh face, Xaya might be the one.

As Xaya has that sweet fresh touch to it, I thought new releases from Aoharu were perfect for the romantic nostalgy of The Far Away Sim. While the shirt is nothing very new from Aoharu, just a declinaison of what was released in the past, the lace skirt is pretty cute and the Anexx Cowboy boots are great looking with fancy details and realistic fringes.

Now… the little rant of the day… while it is convenient for people who have no idea about how the basic building tool is working, I hate resize scripts. I am not even wearing jewelry and I just cannot TP away with this outfit. Avatar rendering cost 7714! Ever heard about lag? Remove the boots => down to 4066. So wear those great boots, look good with them and don’t try to do anyting else, anyway, you will lag your hell out trying to do anything with them. Remove the shirt => 2928. Remove the skirt => 1353 ! BAN RESIZE SCRIPTS! Thank you! Seriously, prims and sculpies are already enough resources eater without adding useless scripts to the count.
