Angle and windlight

Today I will show you almost twice the same picture but I was not happy with the first one I had taken (the one here under) and I will explain why.

At first I had not really planned on lighting the picture this way but as I was testing and trying in Photoshop, the idea came it was the perfect pose for this kind of light coming from one side. After my usual editing, I have simply used a soft light layer with a basic gradient to do it.

Unfortunately, the windlight settings I had chosen in Second Life were not appropriate as you can see the shadow of my avatar screened on the background, showing the angle used. The colors are more neutral and that is why I had gone with it first. But the more I look at the picture, the more I feel there is something weird with the shadows.

I have then decided to try again in Second Life and use windlight settings with an angle more appropriate. It actualy is an angle for dawn or dusk so the picture has a lot more orange in it.

Next time, I guess I should better plan my picture and what I want to do in the end. In this case, I should have probably used lamps in Second Life rather than playing with windlight setting.

Something Different

Yesterday, a friend made me discover a new skin store called The Skin Shop. The name is new but the designers are not as they are behind The Body Shop and a lot of other stores. With the shops, they are offering us a new shopping experience. The system is still in a beta test. So far, you can only purchase skins without enhancements (make ups). If you want more details, you should visit the The Shops in SL website. It looks like a lot more is coming.

There are 36 different tones available so be ready to spend a lot of time in the store trying all of them. You can purchase demos and products thanks to a HUD you have to wear in the store. It is a bit disorienting at first as it is a new way to shop in world.

Even without makeup, there are already enough options to play with. You can combine several skins to have a unique look through tattoo layers. In the above picture, I am combining Chocolata and Alana, while in the picture below, you can admire the full set for Pussy.

Cold colors

There are two new releases at Zaara‘s this week-end. The Kavya summer pants are mesh clothing while the Nina tube top is part layer for the tank and part mesh for the bow. As there is no alpha around the brest, Zaara Kohime took time to make extra sizes to fit as many shapes as possible. Also, thanks to the top being in two parts, you can mix and match different textures like I did here.

Old and new

This outfit is almost old and new as the upper body is covered with system clothes and sculpties while I am wearing mesh pants, belt and shoes for the bottom. Both have benefits of different kinds aswell as annoying characteristics. Nothing like system clothes and sculpties to create an outfit. You can layer them, move the pieces, make them fit. It allows for more creation. Of course rigged mesh are… rigged, wear them as they are, no change is allowed. For example, while I absolutely love the textures on mesh clothing, it is nearly impossible to wear boots with mesh pants. For a big fan of boots like me, this is really annoying. While I understand this makes a huge additional work for the designers who are already playing with 5 sizes, I would appreciate to see boots versions for pants. I am not asking for perfection, as it varies a lot from the height of the boots but if at least the pants could be smaller at the ankles so they don’t go out of the boots, this would help.

As I don’t want to sound like I am only ranting about mesh… tiny sculpted prims are a hell! It has been bugged for years now in the official viewer. As soon you zoom out, they disappear. You have no idea how often I have clone stamped jewelry from other pictures because I had forgotten to click on everything for the 36th time for the pose i prefered.
